It felt like the turbos were struggling to spool but the effect is more pronounced in the higher gears (4th - 6th) which I'm inclined to believe is a sign of excessive clutch wear.

If a petrol then probably a fault with the cold running system, but could also be a problem with the engine oil not circulating properly, or being the wrong grade. Change it for the right grade.
